Portugal-based CJR Renewables has finalised the construction of a 34-MW/64 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at the site of Enel Green Power Chile SA’s 106-MW La Cubana wind farm in central Chile.
The La Cabana BESS was installed at the site of a wind park with the same name in Chile’s Araucania region to provide two hours of energy storage capacity. The facility will store electricity generated by the 22-turbine wind farm, which was brought online in February and is expected to have an annual output of around 330 GWh.
The project is notable for being Enel Chile’s first wind farm to incorporate battery storage capacity, Fabrizio Barderi, general manager of Enel Chile, said previously. The company has a target in place to hybridise over 1 GW of its wind and solar projects with batteries as part of its 2022-2024 strategic plan.
