CustomCells teams up with Kreisel Electric

The German battery cell manufacturer CustomCells and the Austrian battery system specialist Kreisel Electric announced their cooperation. Together, they intend to develop two customer-specific battery cell designs for off-highway vehicles.

According to CustomCells, this will involve two variants: one with an extremely high energy density and another with an optimised overall cost structure. The strengths of the two companies are intended to complement each other: CustomCells specialises in customised battery cells, while Kreisel specialises in customer-specific battery systems and complete solutions for areas such as marine applications (sports and leisure boats, ferries and transport ships) and the off-highway sector (including construction site vehicles and agricultural commercial vehicles). The current cooperation focuses on the off-highway sector, but no customer has been named.

Other components of the project include the global supply chain, material availability, technical and commercial risks and the technology readiness level. CustomCells is working on a prediction of the electrochemical performance and the electrochemical and thermal stability of the cell designs. In addition, a risk analysis of cell development and series production is prepared.

“The goal of this collaboration is, of course, to identify the best and most optimal cell for future applications. At the same time, we aim to influence cost structures and manufacturing strategies positively,” emphasizes Philipp Kreisel, Founder and Managing Director of KREISEL Electric. “Together with CustomCells, we are analyzing all requirements and conditions to define what this ultimately means for the final cell. Factors like format, cell design, and chemistry are just some of the key aspects to consider. We are absolute experts when it comes to getting the best out of batteries, which is why we are already shaping the basis at cell level that goes for industry-proven exceptional KREISEL performance and safety.”

“The partnership with KREISEL once again allows us to demonstrate the adaptability and flexibility of CustomCells. Tailored solutions in development and manufacturing are our domain,” added Dr Dirk Abendroth, CEO of CustomCells. “Niche markets, such as off-highway vehicles, are increasingly gaining attention – and CustomCells is in the pole position to lead in this area.”
