Hysata, POSCO Holdings and POSCO E&C partner to advance green hydrogen high efficiency electrolyzer technology

Hysata, an Australian manufacturer o fhigh-efficiency electrolyzers entered into two Joint Development Agreements (JDA) with POSCO Holdings and POSCO Eco & Challenge (POSCO E&C). These collaborations aim to advance the development and deployment of Hysata’s next-generation electrolyzer technology.

This builds on the strategic partnership established earlier this year through POSCO Holdings and POSCO E&C investments in Hysata’s Series B funding round.

Under the terms of the JDA with POSCO Holdings, both companies will contribute technical knowledge and expertise jointly to develop materials and systems for high-efficiency electrolyzers. The partnership will also focus on utilizing each other’s capabilities to conduct joint activities aimed at accelerating the commercialisation of Hysata’s electrolyzer technology.

Under the terms of the JDA with POSCO E&C, both companies will contribute knowledge towards the construction of electrolyzers that will benefit the green hydrogen industry and its derivatives.

Hysata’s electrolysis design is underpinned by two key innovations: an ultra-low resistance separator, and bubble-free operation. Together, these factors collapse the resistance of the cell and make the cell highly efficient. This step-change efficiency improvement leads to lowest cost green hydrogen, accelerating its competitiveness in the hard to-abate sectors, the company says.

Hysata says that its systems are 95% efficient (41.5 kWh/kg) compared with around 75% for incumbent technologies (52.5 kWh/kg).
